The Contarian Truth Fermentation Awareness

Spot fermentation issues in 60 seconds
Most cigar programs cover the basics, how to cut, how to light, and the story behind the brand. But they skip over fermentation. That’s the real reason people complain: “This cigar is harsh,” or “It tastes like nothing.”
You don’t blame the smoker for a bad experience. Here’s what’s really going on: • That sharp, ammonia burn? The tobacco didn’t ferment long enough, or maybe it wasn’t rested after rolling. • If the smoke feels empty or flat, someone overprocessed the leaf, used too much low-quality filler, or stripped the blend of its oils with heavy-handed fermentation. • Bitter taste and a hot burn? Usually, that’s from immature leaves, rushed fermentation cycles, or storage with too much humidity. • Sometimes you get a great aroma but barely any flavor. That’s a nice wrapper hiding weak fermentation or poor aging in the filler. • If cigars from the same box aren’t consistent, the factory didn’t manage their fermentation batches the same way. If you run a lounge or hotel program, this stuff eats into your margins. Nobody comes back for cigars that ruin their night.
